Primary Responsibilities

The primary role of the Supply Chain - Transportation Cost Specialist is to actively support the Company’s strategic initiatives to reduce costs and improve services for our inbound transportation.  The incumbent is responsible for negotiating, maintaining and improving inbound transportation costs for all our FOB and EX Works Suppliers. The incumbent would be responsible for maintaining the system with the correct costing to ensure efficient invoice processing. Essential Functions

  • Support and participate in food safety programs including SQF (Safe Quality Food)
  • Negotiate OTR, Ocean Freight and Drayage Freight contracts with carriers. Shipping Lines and Freight forwarders
  • Create Annual Tenders, invite Shipping Lines and FF to bid
  • Compare, confirm and maintain contract pricing for all freight lanes and routes diligently and accurately.
  • Develop and maintain tracking dashboard including reporting and historical information database.
  • Manage and update inbound shipping tracking report to provide management with insight on D&D, storage related additional costs as well as freight cost development.
  • Build, Develop and maintain good working relationships with logistics partners.
  • Work closely with supply planners to provide logistical support.
  • Must maintain good attendance, safe work practices and maintain safeguards of confidential company information.
  • Other duties and special projects as requested.

Minimum Requirements, Qualifications, Additional Skills, Aptitude

  • Must have a College diploma with a minimum of five (5) year related experience and have a fundamental knowledge of Transportation and Logistics.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ working experience on Ocean Freight and 3 years’ experience with trucking company
  • CITT designation is an asset.
  • Medium to Advanced level on Excel and working knowledge of Power BI.
  • Experience in SAP is an asset.
  • Experience in TMS is an asset
  • Working knowledge of cross border paperwork/customs requirements.
  • Must have strong attention to details, interpersonal skills, and be customer focused.
  • Must be analytical, results-oriented, self-directed, and have excellent negotiating and time management skills. 
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to identify and resolve conflicts and problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Work, PowerPoint)
