Primary Responsibilities

The Retail Development Supervisor (RDS) plays a critical leadership role in overseeing a team of Territory Managers responsible for executing sales and merchandising programs across independent and chain grocery customers within a defined geographic area. Reporting to the Retail Development Manager, the RDS is accountable for delivering district-level sales and distribution targets, ensuring retail execution excellence, supporting key customer relationships, and fostering team development. Essential Functions

  • Support and participate in food safety programs including SQF (Safe Quality Food).
  • Directly manage a team of Territory Managers (sales representatives), providing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to achieve sales, distribution, and execution goals.
  • Oversee daily sales activities within the district, including in-store visits, program compliance, and promotional execution.
  • Support and grow sales with key accounts in the district, including direct account management responsibilities for select customers.
  • Assist with new product launches, in-store merchandising, promotional and sales initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Sales Manager to develop and implement district sales strategies that align with company goals and customer needs.
  • Analyze sales performance data, identify opportunities and gaps, and take action to improve results at both the team and account level.
  • Ensure execution of company standards including planogram compliance, display quality, pricing, and in-store sales processes.
  • Participate in customer business reviews and contribute to building strong, service-oriented relationships with store owners, operators, and managers.
  • Recruit, train, and develop Territory Managers to ensure high levels of field competency and engagement.
  • Monitor competitor activity and market conditions to inform local tactics and field-level decision-making.
  • Promote adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and operational best practices.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements, Qualifications, Additional Skills, Aptitude

  • 3–5 years of experience in sales or field management in the grocery distribution or CPG industry, preferably in the Canadian market.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and motivate a field sales team in a fast-paced, retail environment.
  • Strong relationship management skills with experience in direct account handling.
  • Solid understanding of grocery retail operations, merchandising principles, and promotional execution.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to interpret sales metrics and apply actionable insights.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with CRM or sales tracking tools is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license with regular travel within the assigned district. Overnight trips are required occasionally.
