Primary Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with food safety, recalls and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will participate in the maintenance and evolution of the company’s quality programs, ensuring alignment and compliance to SQF and SFCR standards. One of the key responsibilities is to interact with Operation team as well as other departments to ensure policies, procedures, audits and training programs are implemented and followed.

 

 

Essential Functions

  • Support and participate in food safety programs including SQF (Safe Quality Food).
  • Participate in all CFIA, internal, customer and SQF audits for all sites.
  • Maintain vendor management program and monitor vendor performance.
  • Coordinate with CFIA for product inspections and handle any non-compliance issues or hold-ups.
  • Ensure all inspection areas and tools are properly maintained and sanitized according to food safety protocols.
  • Drive food safety culture within the company through safety messages, training, etc.
  • Develop, implement, update and maintain documents, protocols, manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), food safety plan etc. as required.
  • Communicate to Senior Leadership Team, Operation Team and other departments all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF program and Preventative Control Plan (PCP).
  • Maintain current knowledge of all Federal and local food safety regulations.
  • Initiate and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives in quality assurance and compliance.
  • Plan and conduct internal audits to assess compliance with programs including but not limited to Good Industry Practices (GIP) and SQF.
  • Investigate and resolve quality deviations, customer complaints, CFIA non-compliances and timely close out of CAPAs.
  • Perform inspections in three temperature zones: freezer, chilled/refrigerated and ambient.
  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee.

Minimum Requirements, Qualifications, Additional Skills, Aptitude

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or related discipline.
  • Strong interpersonal skill, self-motivated and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of HACCP, SFCR and SQF/GFSI.
  • HACCP certified is an asset.
  • Working knowledge and experience with meat and cheese import or manufacturing.
  • Regular working hours with the exception of recalls and crisis.

The base compensation range for this role is $55,500 CAD - $72,000 CAD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
